It's a matter of use case, I think. In the case of a taxi or a fleet vehicle, it makes sense. Most people, however, expect at least some modern conveniences for a personal car.

In a world of over complicated cars, the Tour V (O)'s simplicity is refreshing. It’s a like a Nokia 3310 of cars, it does the basics really well, without any fuss.

Granted I do like the durability argument, but safety features shouldn’t be considered frills. ABS and airbags are not luxuries, but rather things like that you need.

I actually prefer the simple approach because I’m not tech savvy. You don't need to read a manual to change the radio station or adjust the AC.

While it is okay that there aren't features right now, in a few years it will make the car feel very dated. At least, Maruti should offer some modern features as options.
Could the Maruti Tour V (O) surprise us by being a hit in the young, budget conscious buyer segment?
30 December 2024 09:27
Young buyers don't want style and features, no way. The Tour V (O) is too basic and 'uncool' for the youth market. And would rather buy a used premium hatchback than a new Tour V (O).

I can actually see it happening. As the gig economy comes into play, young entrepreneurs may find the Tour V (O) practical and low in running costs. It was a smart, no nonsense choice.

If I was a young buyer, I would think about it. The car is something that you could save money on and put that money toward travel or starting a business. Also, there’s a certain coolness to doing something different and unique.

If Maruti markets it right, it could work. Talk up the practicality angle and feature this as a do it all car for work and play. Or maybe even collaborate with some young influencers to show its potential.

I think it's a stretch. Young buyers may be budget conscious but they’re also conscious of image. The Tour V (O) may be too utilitarian to get beyond its "taxi" image among youth.

In an ironic, hipster sort of way, it could become popular. Just as some young people are into old, boxy Volvos. In fact, the no frills vibe the Tour V (O) might actually become its selling point.

I’ve just bought my first car, and when I was looking for a car I considered the Tour V (O). I liked the space and low running costs, but I went for something with more features. Young buyers who grew up with smartphones find it a tough sell.

If you're really tight on budget, the Tour M might work. You will, however, miss out on some of the comfort features that make the Ertiga a great family car.

I'd say go for it! And most of the "missing" features are just frills anyway, and the savings could be substantial. The extra cash in their pocket will be appreciated by a large family.
Should large family on a budget go for the Tour M or stay with the regular Ertiga?

It's not worth it. The regular Ertiga isn’t much more expensive, and you get a much better overall package. You also avoid any registration hassles.
Should large family on a budget go for the Tour M or stay with the regular Ertiga?

As a person that drove both, I can say that Tour M is good enough for family purposes. In short, it is nothing but an Ertiga minus the bling.

Think about the long term. But Tour M may be cheaper now, only to have those savings eaten up by lower resale value and possibly higher maintenance costs.
Should large family on a budget go for the Tour M or stay with the regular Ertiga?
30 December 2024 09:17
Why not? Go for it if it meets your needs and if it saves you money. If you really miss something, you can always add aftermarket features.

I would worry about safety features. If they have cut corners there, it’s not worth risking your family’s safety for some savings.
How does the Tour M perform and how reliable is it when put in heavy commercial use against other MPVs of its class?

According to some taxi drivers, the Tour M is doing pretty good. It seems Maruti’s reliability reputation has survived into their commercial vehicles.
