Are taxi fleets the only people who will use the Maruti Tour H2, which is essentially a rebadged WagonR?
30 December 2024 09:02
I disagree. It's based on the WagonR, but to label it as just a rebadge does not do justice to the changes Maruti has made. That means they probably rebuilt the suspension to be even more rugged, modified the engine to last longer, and maybe even used different interior material to take the abuse.
Are taxi fleets the only people who will use the Maruti Tour H2, which is essentially a rebadged WagonR?

In reality, it's Maruti's cost cutting move. Through this, they are saving on R&D and production costs as they will just be repurposing an existing model. I am not sure it is the best solution for taxi drivers or passengers, but it’s smart business.
Are taxi fleets the only people who will use the Maruti Tour H2, which is essentially a rebadged WagonR?

I was a taxi driver myself, and I can say that using a car adapted from the consumer market is not a good idea. What we need are vehicles purpose built for commercial use — more durable, more maintainable, with features tailored to taxi operations.
Are taxi fleets the only people who will use the Maruti Tour H2, which is essentially a rebadged WagonR?

I think it's a win-win. Taxi operators get a reliable, easy to maintain, fuel efficient car with parts that are easy to find, while Maruti gets to expand their market without much investment. It’s also a familiar, comfortable ride for passengers.

You're all missing the point. The problem with this approach, however, is that it stifles innovation in the commercial vehicle space. If we’re not able to get manufacturers to build truly optimized taxis or urban mobility solutions, we’re never going to see that.

In fact, I prefer to ride in a Tour H2 than some purpose built taxis, as someone who uses taxis frequently. I feel more like a passenger in a personal car which is more comfortable for me.
Is the Maruti Tour H2's CNG option a game changer for eco friendly taxi fleets?
30 December 2024 09:02
Absolutely! Petrol is way more expensive than CNG and also much cleaner. For taxi operators trying to save on costs and reduce emissions, it’s a no brainer. The CNG Tour H2 could truly clean our cities.
Is the Maruti Tour H2's CNG option a game changer for eco friendly taxi fleets?
30 December 2024 09:02
I'm not so sure. CNG is cleaner than petrol but it is still a fossil fuel. Instead of investing in another temporary solution, we should be pushing for full electrification. In fact, the Tour H2 CNG could even slow down EV adoption in the taxi sector.
Is the Maruti Tour H2's CNG option a game changer for eco friendly taxi fleets?
30 December 2024 09:02
The CNG option is a great thing as a taxi driver. I save money and I feel good about polluting less. The problem is that CNG stations are not everywhere. The only reason it’s a game changer is if the infrastructure is there to support it.
Is the Maruti Tour H2's CNG option a game changer for eco friendly taxi fleets?
30 December 2024 09:02
You have all forgotten about the performance issues of CNG vehicles. Less power and less acceleration are often a problem in city traffic. So is it really worth the trade off?
Is the Maruti Tour H2's CNG option a game changer for eco friendly taxi fleets?
30 December 2024 09:02
It's a great intermediate step, I think. It’s clear we can’t switch to all electric overnight, but we can begin to reduce emissions now with CNG. With the Tour H2 CNG, we have a practical solution while we build up EV infrastructure.
Is the Maruti Tour H2's CNG option a game changer for eco friendly taxi fleets?
30 December 2024 09:02
The elephant in the room is safety. In accidents, CNG tanks can be dangerous. Are we really okay with thousands of these vehicles flying around our cities?
Is the Maruti Tour H2's CNG option a game changer for eco friendly taxi fleets?
30 December 2024 09:02
Having worked on CNG conversions myself, I can tell you that modern factory fitted CNG systems, like those in the Tour H2, are much safer and more efficient than aftermarket conversions. For eco conscious fleet operators, it is a solid choice.
Is the Tour H2's no frills interior a smart move or a missed opportunity?
30 December 2024 09:02
It's definitely a smart move. The simplicity is something as a taxi driver I appreciate. It's easy to clean, less to break, and less costly. After all, passengers aren’t expecting luxury in a budget taxi.
Is the Tour H2's no frills interior a smart move or a missed opportunity?
30 December 2024 09:02
I disagree. Currently, it is not easy to get a budget taxi that offers a good experience. Higher fares and more customers could be justified by a slightly nicer interior. Maruti had a chance to stand out.
Is the Tour H2's no frills interior a smart move or a missed opportunity?
30 December 2024 09:02
You both don’t get it. About durability is the basic interior. With constant use, these cars go through hell. Fancy interiors would not make for cheap upkeep and downtime for repairs.
Is the Tour H2's no frills interior a smart move or a missed opportunity?
30 December 2024 09:02
I use taxis a lot and actually prefer the no frills interior. Somehow it feels more hygienic. I don't need luxury, just a clean functional space for the short ride.
Is the Tour H2's no frills interior a smart move or a missed opportunity?
30 December 2024 09:02
I believe Maruti should have given two interior options, one as basic for budget fleets and another slightly upgraded for operators aiming at higher end market. It would've been the be all and end all.
Is the Tour H2's no frills interior a smart move or a missed opportunity?
30 December 2024 09:02
The interior is stripped down and terrible for drivers who spend hours every day in the car. If the working conditions and job satisfaction could just be a little more comfortable, they'd do better.
Is the Tour H2's no frills interior a smart move or a missed opportunity?
30 December 2024 09:02
It’s all about cost cutting. Maruti offers bare minimum to maximize profits. It’s smart business, but it’s not great for improving the quality of taxi services.
