Mahindra Major is a discontinued product and it can only be bought from the used market. The currently available Jeep from Mahindra is Thar and it is available with 2 different engines as per the requirement of the customer.The first engine is the same old 2.5 L DI motor whereas the other one on offer is the Scorpio sourced 2.2 L CRDe unit. The second engine is offered with more power and comes with AWD. A thar can be bought for an on-road estimate of INR 8-10 lakh, depending upon the variant and location in India.

The Mahindra Major comes with a powerful & fuel efficient MDI 3200 engine, returning a mileage of around 10-12 kmpl. The gearbox on the same is a 5-speed unit and it was retailed before the introduction of Thar to the Indian market. The Jeep was the best off-road vehicle of its time and came with features like radial tyres and a soft top for easy use and removal. It came with front disc brakes whereas the rear were drum brake units. The car had no features for comfort enhancement and came without power steering. It came with a price tag of INR 5,10,000 when last sold from the showrooms, which was quite big amount for that time.

The Mahindra Major CL550 MDI was available only in Beige shade, with black soft top. The jeep was available in 4x4 and proved to be a very useful vehicle at its time. It came with a turbo diesel engine and 5 speed gearbox. The steering wheel was traditional as power assisted ones were not on offer at that time. It came with a seating arrangement for 8 people and had no modern technology or equipment for its use. It rode with high ground clearance and the engine was very noisy at that time.
