The machine is an incredible thing, but the maintenance costs and the likelihood of expensive repairs in remote areas are enough to keep me from really pushing its limits off-road.

It's improved for sure, but I don't trust it as much as a Japanese bike for a round-the-world trip. It can be finicky electronics.

It's a toss-up. I have friends with problem-free KTMs and friends with nightmares. Luck of the draw, I guess.

Parts availability might be a problem compared to Japanese bikes, but the reliability is fine, except in remote areas.

Both are owned by me, and honestly, the gap isn’t nearly as big as it used to be. My old Suzuki V-Strom has been just as reliable as my KTM.

If you are mostly on the road, it is not worth it. Japanese alternatives are better value for money.
