Is the Kia EV6 a practical family car?
03 January 2025 12:01
I was worried I would not be happy stepping down from a minivan to the EV6, but it's been easy. Sure, it's not as cavernous, but it's still practical enough, and way more fun to drive. The biggest change was wrapping my mind around how to pack more efficiently for road trips.
What are the Kia EV6’s real world range compared to its EPA rating?
03 January 2025 12:01
The EV6 always exceeds its EPA range in my experience. In mild weather and city driving, I usually get 10-15% more range than advertised. Other EVs that failed to live up to their ratings it's been a pleasant surprise indeed.
What are the Kia EV6’s real world range compared to its EPA rating?
03 January 2025 12:01
The real world range is pretty close to the EPA rating, but that depends on how you drive. I see a huge drop on long highway trips at 75+ mph. For my daily commute, which is mostly city driving, I often beat the EPA number.
What are the Kia EV6’s real world range compared to its EPA rating?
03 January 2025 12:01
Being in a cold climate, I’ve noticed a big range hit in winter. On the coldest days I get about 70 percent of the EPA range. This isn’t just an EV6 issue, but if you live in a similar climate it’s something to keep in mind.
What are the Kia EV6’s real world range compared to its EPA rating?
03 January 2025 12:01
I was worried about range, as I have a heavy foot. I'm close enough to the EPA numbers that even with my driving style I'm getting close. It really works well for regenerative braking, especially in stop and go traffic.
What are the Kia EV6’s real world range compared to its EPA rating?
03 January 2025 12:01
I’ve been keeping tabs on my range, and after 15,000 miles, I’m averaging about 5% less than EPA rating. On road trips with mostly highway fast chargers the range is spot on with what’s advertised for high speed charging, but…
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
No way. But when it comes to range and charging, Tesla’s still king. Kia is always going to be playing catch up until they can match that Supercharger network.
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
I think Kia's got a shot. Their ranges are competitive, and really, most people don’t need 400+ miles of range for daily driving.
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
It's not just about how far you can go, it's about how fast you can charge, and how readily available charging is. If Kia can get fast charging right and work with the right networks, they could really threaten Tesla.
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
The Tesla network is great, but it's not the only game in town anymore. Other charging networks are expanding fast as more EVs take to the road. All Kia has to do is ensure their cars get along with all of them.
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
Range anxiety is so 2020. The EV5 has more than 500 km range, which is enough for most people. And Kia's cars are a lot more affordable than Tesla's.
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
And let's be real, Tesla's still years ahead in software and charging integration. Until Kia can make it as simple as Tesla, they’re not competing.
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
If I had to choose, I’d take Kia’s build quality over a few more miles of range any day. Kia has the reliability, Tesla has the numbers.
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
It's not a fair comparison. Tesla has been in the EV game way longer. Kia has a few years to go but I bet they will close the gap significantly.
Can the Kia EV5 match Tesla’s range and charging network?
03 January 2025 11:54
Does a few miles of range matter when the EV5 looks so much cooler? I would rather to arrive in style with 20 miles less of range.
Will the Kia EV5’s lower price point disrupt the electric SUV market?
03 January 2025 11:54
Absolutely! With Kia's pricing, other manufacturers are going to have to start playing ball. Someone had to make a decent EV that doesn't cost a house.
Will the Kia EV5’s lower price point disrupt the electric SUV market?
03 January 2025 11:54
I'm skeptical. It's got to be a catch somewhere. Or maybe it'll have less range, or cheaper materials. Isn't that what you get for what you pay for?
Will the Kia EV5’s lower price point disrupt the electric SUV market?
03 January 2025 11:54
That is exactly what the EV market needs. For too long, Tesla has been the only game in town. It will be good for everyone to have some real competition.
Will the Kia EV5’s lower price point disrupt the electric SUV market?
03 January 2025 11:54
Sure, lower price is great, but it’s not everything. How about long term reliability and resale value? Kia has a lot to do to prove itself in the EV world.
Will the Kia EV5’s lower price point disrupt the electric SUV market?
03 January 2025 11:54
For first time EV buyers it will definitely shake things up, I think. When you’re not breaking the bank, it’s a lot easier to take the plunge.
