I think it has to do with the size of the car and the kind of people who can afford it. And it attracts those who want to display their status and power on the road.

I am a Fortuner owner and I hate this stereotype. I drive responsibly but I’m judged all the time for my car choice. To generalize all owners isn't fair.

Some buyers like the "bad boy" image. That road presence and the feeling of power is what they want. Toyota's not exactly not discouraging it with their marketing either.

This has become a self fulfilling prophecy. Aggressive drivers are attracted to the reputation, which reinforces the stereotype, and so on.

I think it's more that the vehicle has the capabilities. If you are normally a calm driver, it is easy to get tempted to use that much power and size.

Most users are definitely overrated. I have had my Fortuner for 3 years and never taken it off road. I like the peace of mind it provides but it’s overkill for city use.

Not overrated at all. While you might not go proper off roading, the Fortuner’s capability is pretty good for bad roads, waterlogged streets and the odd trip to a farmhouse or hill station.

It’s like buying a gaming laptop just for browsing and MS Office. It works, but you're not using all the features and paying more than you need to.

That's what makes it a Fortuner, its off road capability. If you want a soft roader, buy something else. Just because some owners don’t use it fully, don’t dilute the Fortuner’s DNA.

I think the possibility is more than the use. Even if you rarely do, knowing you can go anywhere is a big part of the appeal.

I've taken my Fortuner off road and it's not overrated. I agree with most owners that they don't need or use this capability.

It's not just about being able to go to extreme places off road. It’s about how to handle whatever Indian roads can throw at you, be it potholes, floods or even a farmer’s tractor in the middle of the road. In that sense, it's very relevant.

I think it's cool but those fancy curves and low profile are going to be a nightmare on our pothole filled roads. Speed bumps, good luck clearing.

It's a concept car, folks. It will be toned down for the production version, and be more practical. No one knows the Indian market better than Maruti and it won’t mess this up.

Boring doesn't have to be practical. If Maruti can get the futuristic look to match with decent ground clearance and durability, it could be a game changer.

I would be more worried about the maintenance costs. Expensive repairs and hard to find parts often come with fancy designs.
