I’ve ridden both, and the Versys-X is more playful and easier to throw about. Great in the city and on tight trails.

There is a bit of a build quality feel to the Honda over the Kawasaki. In the long run, it’ll probably hold up better.

But if you’re on a tight budget, the Versys X is hard to beat. For the money, it’s a lot of bike.

I love my CB500X, but I sometimes wish it had the Versys X's more off-road-oriented 19/17 wheel combo.

The Versys-X's parallel twin is smoother than the CB500X's. It makes for a nicer ride on long trips.

Honda is legendary for reliability. That's enough to justify the extra cost over the Kawasaki.

They’re fine for fire roads and light trails, but anything more serious and you’ll want to upgrade.
Is the stock CB500X suspension up to light off-road duty?

My stock suspension has taken mine on some pretty rough stuff. Riding within the bike's limits and managing your expectations is all this is about.
Is the stock CB500X suspension up to light off-road duty?

The front fork is nice, and the rear shock is the weak link. A bit of shock upgrade makes a world of difference off-road.
Is the stock CB500X suspension up to light off-road duty?
16 January 2025 07:00
The stock suspension is more than adequate for the average rider who does the occasional off-road trip. There’s no need to spend extra unless you really are pushing it.
Is the stock CB500X suspension up to light off-road duty?

I have regret in upgrading my suspension. I rarely use the extra off-road capability, and the bike loses its comfortable road manners.
Is the stock CB500X suspension up to light off-road duty?

The stock suspension is a great compromise. It's plush on the road and light off-road useable. What else do you need from an all-rounder?

I think the stock suspension gets underestimated. With the right technique, this bike can go to some gnarly places with no upgrades.
How is the CB500X in two-up riding and long-distance touring?
16 January 2025 07:00
It’s ok for two up for weekend trips, but I wouldn’t want to do a cross-country tour two up on it. With a passenger and full luggage, it feels a bit strained.

With my partner, I've done several weeklong trips on the back. Not a Gold Wing, but surprisingly capable and comfortable.
How is the CB500X in two-up riding and long-distance touring?

Long-distance riding is the weak point for the stock seat. For rider and passenger, an aftermarket seat makes a world of difference.
How is the CB500X in two-up riding and long-distance touring?
16 January 2025 07:00
It's perfect for touring, I think. But it's light enough to be fun in the twisties and stable enough for highway miles. Expect, however, not to break any speed records fully loaded.
How is the CB500X in two-up riding and long-distance touring?
16 January 2025 07:00
Two-up riding is fine, but I would suggest a top box for the passenger for longer trips. It makes a big difference.
How is the CB500X in two-up riding and long-distance touring?

I've done 500-mile days on my CB500X solo with no problems. I would probably limit it to 300 miles a day for comfort with a passenger.
