It's a budget bike, folks. The ComforTec is better than nothing, but don’t expect miracles. It doesn’t transform your ride, but it takes the edge off.

It depends on your weight and riding style how effective it is. The comfort tech is great for lighter riders that don't push the bike hard. Heavier riders may think it lacks.

I had my doubts, but after a year of ownership I can say the comfort features do help. It’s not a revolutionary bike, but it’s a marked improvement on my old one.
Do some owners claim the Bajaj Platina 100 ES is really the 'king of mileage'?

I've had this Platina for 2 years now and I'm always getting around 80-85 kmpl in the city. This isn't the 90+ that Bajaj claims but it's still pretty damn good. The only thing you need to do is ride sensibly and take care of regular maintenance.

King of mileage? More like king of disappointment. Within 6 months my mileage dropped from 85 to barely 60 kmpl. Bajaj's quality control is a laughing stock.

Guys, you can't expect miracles. It is fantastic if you can go even 60-70 kmpl of most bikes out there. If you keep it right, the Platina delivers solid efficiency.

I definitely think that the title of the 'king of mileage' is well earned. For last over a year, I have been getting 90+ kmpl consistently. The trick is to ride smooth and not to accellerate unnecessarilly.

To be real, mileage isn't everything. I would rather have a bike with better performance and comfort that delivers 60 kmpl than extract every drop of fuel from a gutless commuter.

It's all about expectations. If you buy the Platina, have 100 kmpl in mind, you will be disappointed. However, if you're happy with 70-80 kmpl (which is still great) you'll love this bike.

The mileage claims are real, but only if you're willing to ride like a grandma. It’s painfully slow and not worth the hassle in city traffic, but I can get 90+ kmpl.
So, why does the Bajaj Platina 100 ES seem to divide owners right down the middle?

I think it’s all about expectations. The Platina is great if you’re looking for a no frills efficient commuter. If you expect anything more, you'll be disappointed.

Bajaj has an inconsistent quality control, and that’s why it has a polarizing reputation. There are some bikes that are rock solid reliable, others are lemons from day one. It's like a lottery.

The thing is, people hate on the Platina because it’s not “cool.” It’s perfect for daily commuters who just want to get from A to B cheaply. Not every bike needs to have status.

It’s a love hate thing: people who take care of their bikes love it, people who don’t take care of their bikes hate it. Lazy owners won't get away with it on the Platina.

Over the years I’ve owned 3 Platinas and they’ve all been great. A lot of the hate I think is from people who buy it thinking it's going to be a performance bike for a budget price.
So, why does the Bajaj Platina 100 ES seem to divide owners right down the middle?

This is because Honda’s reliability is often compared to it. Bajaj is better, but they aren’t quite there yet. Some owners are lucky, some aren't.

It's all about perspective. The Platina is great coming from a bicycle or walking. If you are downgrading from a bigger bike, you are going to be disappointed.

In 20,000 km I've had to replace my rear brake shoes twice. Compared to my old Hero bike, they wear out so quickly, it is ridiculous.

If you look after your brakes properly, they’re okay. I regularly flush the brake fluid and never had any issues with it so far, 30,000 km.

And it's not just wear, the braking performance is at best, mediocre. I’m never confident in stopping suddenly in traffic.
