Volkswagen India has announced the discontinuation of select variants of the Vento, but the Sport Edition, including the diesel automatic, is not explicitly mentioned among the discontinued models. However, the companys focus has shifted towards newer models. The Vento Sport Diesel Automatic, when available, was priced around Rs 12.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) with additional sporty features like carbon-fibre finish on outside rearview mirrors and 16-inch Portago alloy wheels. I think this move might be a sign of the company preparing for newer launches.

The Volkswagen Vento Sport Diesel Automatic, part of the Sport Edition, was expected to retain the mechanicals of the standard Vento, including the 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This setup provided a mileage of 22.15 kmpl. The Sport Edition added a sporty touch with features like a glossy black roof foil and sporty side foils. I believe these additions made the Vento more appealing to those looking for a stylish and performance-oriented sedan.

The additional cost, around Rs 25,000-30,000, included features such as a rear spoiler, sporty side foils, and special chrome Sport badges. This edition was aimed at enhancing the visual appeal of the Vento. I think the sporty upgrades were a great way to keep the Vento competitive in the market.

The Vento Sport Diesel Automatic was anticipated to benefit from the updated 1.5-litre diesel engine, which was introduced in other Volkswagen models like the Ameo. This engine provided improved power and efficiency, making the Vento a more competitive option in the compact sedan segment. The update was seen as a significant enhancement to the vehicles performance. I believe this engine update was crucial for the Ventos market standing.

Volkswagen had recalled 3877 Vento sedans in India due to exceeding Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions, but this did not affect the launch plans for the Vento Sport Diesel Automatic. The recall was a precautionary measure to ensure compliance with emission standards. The Sport Edition was expected to maintain the same performance and safety features as the standard Vento. I think such recalls show the companys commitment to safety and compliance.

The facelift included changes like a redesigned front bumper and a new grille, although the overall profile remained largely the same. This facelift was expected to keep the Vento competitive in the market. I think such facelifts are essential for maintaining customer interest.
