Our take on this /// Verdict
The Tesla Model S Plaid is a marvel of modern automotive engineering, especially when it comes to raw performance. With its tri-motor setup delivering a staggering 1020 HP and 1420 Nm of torque, it accelerates from 0-60mph in just 2.4 seconds, making it one of the fastest production cars in the world. However, its appeal extends beyond mere speed the Model S Plaid also boasts a spacious and well-equipped interior, though the material quality and refinement may not entirely match its luxury competitors. The ride and handling are a mixed bag, with the car feeling fluid and neutral but not particularly rewarding to drive through corners. Despite some minor quirks, such as the fiddly touchscreen interface and limited visibility via the mirrors, the Model S Plaid is an outstanding choice for those seeking unparalleled electric performance and the comprehensive ecosystem that Tesla offers.
Price
In India, the Tesla Model S Plaid is expected to be priced around 1,50,00,000 ex-showroom. When you factor in the various taxes and registration fees, the on-road price could easily exceed 1.65 crore, depending on the state and local regulations. This places the Model S Plaid firmly in the luxury segment, competing with high-end electric and petrol-powered vehicles. While the price is certainly steep, it reflects the cars exceptional performance, advanced technology, and the premium experience it offers. For those who can afford it, the Model S Plaid is a unique blend of power, luxury, and sustainability that justifies its premium pricing.
Latest Updates
Monday, 30 September 2024 01:46 PM
The 2024 Tesla Model S Plaid has seen several updates, including new sports seats similar to those from RECARO or Sparco, which are very functional and supportive. The car also features a tilting screen that provides more visibility behind the yoke, a feature that was promised but not delivered in earlier models. Additionally, the brake calipers are now red with improved thermal brake pads. I think these updates make the 2024 Model S Plaid a more compelling purchase, especially with the improved interior features.

Despite its age, the Tesla Model S remains a significant player in the electric vehicle market, but it faces stiff competition from newer models like the Lucid Air Sapphire and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. Tesla has not officially announced a new generation of the Model S, but there are indications that a next-generation platform, codenamed NV9X, could underpin future models, including potentially a new Model S. I think a redesign with new technology and better efficiency would be a game-changer for Tesla.

Teslas upcoming next-generation platform, which will first be used for a new crossover project called Redwood, might also underpin future models like the Model S. This platform is expected to debut in mid-2025 at Teslas Giga Texas plant. I think this new platform could be the key to revitalizing the Model S and keeping it ahead in the luxury electric sedan segment.

Tesla is expected to introduce new features to the Model S and Model X in 2024, including updated efficiency packages, ambient lighting, and a front bumper camera. These changes are aimed at enhancing the vehicles efficiency and user experience, although they may not necessarily improve the range. The new steering wheel will also feature a mechanical horn in the center, replacing the small button used previously. I believe these incremental updates will keep the Model S competitive in the market.

The 2024 Model S Plaid still grapples with some issues, such as vibration problems and tire wear, although some of these have been partially addressed. The addition of a seal to the door has helped with the cold left leg issue in colder climates. However, frequent service visits remain a concern for some owners. I believe Tesla needs to focus on resolving these reliability issues to maintain customer trust.
Mileage
Monday, 18 November 2024 04:55 PM
The mileage of the Tesla Model S Plaid in India is a significant consideration, given the countrys evolving electric vehicle infrastructure. With a WLTP range of approximately 373 miles (601 km) on a single charge, the Model S Plaid offers one of the longest ranges among electric vehicles available in the market. However, real-world mileage can vary based on driving conditions, climate, and usage patterns. In India, where traffic and road conditions can be challenging, the actual range might be slightly lower. Nonetheless, the Model S Plaids range is more than sufficient for daily use and even long road trips, especially with Teslas expanding Supercharger network.
