The Mercedes-Benz SL600 was discontinued for the 2011 model year, marking the end of an era for this V-12 powered variant of the SL-Class. This decision was part of a broader update that saw the introduction of new features and the elimination of less popular models. I think this move was necessary to streamline the lineup and focus on more popular configurations.

The SL600, before its discontinuation, was known for its powerful twin-turbo 6.0-liter V-12 engine, producing 604 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. This made it one of the most potent options in the SL-Class lineup. I think the SL600s performance was unparalleled in its class.

The discontinuation of the SL600 was part of a larger strategy by Mercedes-Benz to refine its product lineup. This move allowed the company to focus on models that were more in demand and to allocate resources more efficiently. I think this strategic decision helped Mercedes-Benz maintain its competitive edge.

Despite the SL600 being discontinued, the 2011 SL-Class lineup still offered impressive performance options, including the SL63 AMG and SL65 AMG. These models continued to uphold the SL-Classs reputation for combining luxury and high-performance capabilities. I think the remaining models still provided ample choice for enthusiasts.

The safety features of the SL-Class, including those that would have been available on the SL600, were highly praised. Standard features included all-disc antilock brakes, electronic stability system, and side-impact airbags, among others. I believe the emphasis on safety was a key selling point for the SL-Class.

The 2011 SL-Class models, excluding the SL600, retained their reputation for excellent handling and ride quality. The Active Body Control system and optional Direct Steer system contributed to this reputation. I think the handling of the SL-Class was one of its standout features.
