When we talk about SUVs, 'Mahindra' name cracks our mind. Mahindra XUV500 has been in news for its spectacular design and low pricing. On the other side, is the gritty giant from the Japanese automaker, Toyota, the 'Fortuner'.

XUV resembles the body of Cheetah, and has door handles like the Cheetah's paws. The hard and tough front honeycomb grille, tubeless tyres, alloy wheels with disc brakes etc. are the plus points. Whereas the Fortuner comes with the new rear bumper, new fog lamps, chromed front radiator grill and the 17” alloy wheels. In terms of interior and spacing, the Fortuner is head on with the former. Quality wise, the interiors of XUV are comparatively better.

As far as the engine is concerned, the XUV is powered with the 2179 cc 5th Gen mHawk  Diesel Engine, delivering a massive power of 140 bhp at the rate of 3750 rpm and the maximum torque of 330 Nm at 1600-2800 rpm. The engine is coupled with a six speed manual transmission and reaches at 100 km/h in 13.5 seconds.

On the contrary, The Fortuner is equipped with the huge and powerful 2982 cc, common rail diesel engine, which delivers a power of 160 bhp at 3600 rpm and a max torque of 330 Nm at the rate of 1400-3400 rpm and accelerates from 0-100 in 14.3 seconds. XUV has a top speed of  175 km/h, while the Fortuner has 176 kmh of top speed.

In terms of features, Fortuner is better, as it is bundled with ample amount of features which include Dual AC, Power Door Lock, Rear Camera Display and a multi utility LCD Touchscreen. In terms of fuel efficiency, XUV gives a mileage of 12 km/l in town and 14 km/l on the highway, whereas the latter, gives 7 km/l in town and 11 km/l on the highway.

Ex-showroom price of XUV is 10.8  Lakhs to Rs. 12.88 Lakhs, while the Fortuner is available at a price ranging from 19.99 – 20.99 Lakhs.

Economy wise, XUV wins the battle, but if you want to go for luxury, Fortuner leaves everyone behind.
