The My BMW app, which accompanies the iX, provides good control and insight into the vehicle but has some usability issues. The app allows users to track charging status, set up recharge routines, and precondition the car, but it sometimes struggles with data connectivity in parking garages. Despite these minor frustrations, the app is a solid package. I believe that refining the apps interface could further enhance the overall ownership experience.

The 2026 BMW iX is set to receive its first major update since its debut in 2022. Expect minor exterior changes, including new front and rear bumpers, revised light signatures, and possibly an illuminated grille. The update may also include advanced interior technology, such as an improved infotainment system and advanced head-up display systems. Additionally, there could be enhancements in battery technology, potentially increasing the driving range. I think these updates will keep the iX competitive in the evolving EV market.

For the 2024 model year, the BMW iX has gained several updates, including an enhanced Parking Assistant Professional feature that allows remote parking via a smartphone app. The Driver Assistance Professional package now includes BMWs Highway Assistant, enabling hands-free driving on certain highways. The batterys pre-conditioning system has also been updated to improve charging rates. I believe these features will significantly enhance the convenience and safety of the iX.

The BMW iX xDrive50 continues to impress with its performance and range. In real-world highway tests, it achieved a 290-mile range, outperforming rivals like the Audi Q8 e-tron and Rivian R1S. The xDrive50 model delivers 516 horsepower and features a smooth ride and agile handling. I think the balance between performance and range makes the iX a compelling choice for those looking for a road-trip-friendly EV.

Owners of the BMW iX have noted a few pet peeves, such as full-screen disclaimers that appear every time certain driving assistance systems are enabled, and the use of digital door latches which can be inconvenient. However, these issues are minor compared to the overall satisfaction with the vehicles performance and features. I think addressing these small annoyances could make the iX an even more enjoyable car to own.
