BMW India has introduced the 6 Series Gran Turismo M Sport Signature, a special edition of the 620d model. This version comes with a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter diesel engine, producing 190 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. It features Dakota leather interior, soft-close doors, and a rear entertainment system with 10.25-inch screens. The car also includes standard air suspension for a smooth ride. I think this special edition is a great way to give the 6 Series a farewell boost.

BMW India is selling the 620d M Sport Signature with a price tag equivalent to Rs. 95,000 or €87,400. This special edition is loaded with features like four-zone automatic climate control, a rear entertainment system, and electric seat adjustment. The car maintains its 50:50 weight distribution and can go from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds. I think the pricing is quite steep for a model thats on its way out.

Despite the global discontinuation of the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, the model is still being produced in India. The Chennai factory continues to manufacture this large five-door hatchback, which has been around since 2017. Its one of the last BMWs to feature laser headlights and the old iDrive infotainment system. The 6 GT is known for its practicality, with a cargo capacity of 600 liters that expands to 1,800 liters when the rear bench is folded.

BMW has officially confirmed that the production of the 6 Series Gran Turismo has ended. This decision comes after the model failed to achieve significant sales, particularly in Europe where it was often used as an airport and hotel shuttle. The 6 Series GT was the last remaining model in the 6 Series lineup, which has now been discontinued. I believe this move was inevitable given the low demand.

The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo was refreshed in 2021 with all its engines receiving some form of electrification. However, this update did not significantly boost its sales. In India, the 6 GT remains available, but globally, it has been a market failure. The models unique design and practical features, such as a panoramic glass roof and electrically adjustable roller sun blinds, were not enough to attract more buyers.

There are rumors that BMW might revive the 6 Series in 2026, potentially merging the coupe and convertible versions of the 4 Series and 8 Series into a single new model. However, BMW has denied these rumors, stating there are no current plans to reintroduce the 6 Series for the 2026 model year. This speculation suggests a possible return to the two-door format that was popular in earlier 6 Series models.

The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo has been criticized for its design and lack of market success. Despite its practical features, such as a large cargo space and comfortable ride, the model has not appealed to many private buyers. In Germany, for example, only 237 units were delivered in the first half of 2023, making it the brands worst-selling model.

The 6 Series Gran Turismo was initially launched in 2017 and was meant to succeed the 5 Series Gran Turismo. However, it never gained much traction in the market. The models production has now ended, and while some units are still available for sale, it marks the end of an era for this particular BMW model.

In terms of technology, the 6 Series Gran Turismo still uses the old iDrive infotainment system, which is a reminder of its age. However, it does come with modern features like electrically adjustable roller sun blinds and a memory function for the front seats. The cars tech, while not cutting-edge, still offers a comfortable and luxurious driving experience.

The discontinuation of the 6 Series Gran Turismo means that the roles of the former 6 Series Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe models are now fulfilled by the corresponding BMW 8 Series. This shift reflects BMWs strategy to consolidate its model lineup and focus on more successful and popular vehicles.
