Introduction

The Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi made a terrific entry when it was introduced in July 2007 with its sporty styling and some features that were brand new to the Indian market. The bike hasn't seen any substantial upgrades in a long time in the Indian market but still retains its appealing appearance with its quarter fairing and vertically-placed dual headlights. At this price point, the Pulsar 220F is a super stylish bike, and it is still one of the favourites among buyers in this motorcycle segment. With the implementation of the BS-VI emission standards, the brand has upgraded its most popular bike among Indian bike lovers. Here's how the latest improvements have impacted the motorcycle.

Bajaj Pulsar 220F Design & Style

The bike has a semi-fairing, which provides a stylish appearance and excellent aerodynamics, and it comes with two vertical halogen headlights, one with a low beam and the other one with a high beam. In addition to that, the motorcycle features a black-coloured front visor with twin rear view mirrors. The clip-on handlebar includes a pass switch, electric start, engine stop switch, and self-cancelling blinkers.

Furthermore, the bike features well-padded, sporty split seats that give the rider as well as the pillion a high-end comfort level. On the back of this bike, there are split rear grab rails, an ultra-stylish LED tail lamp and crystal lens turn indicators. Built on a double cradle down tube, the Pulsar 220F has an overall body size of 2035 mm in length, 750 mm in width, 1165 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 1350 mm, which gives it an indispensable look on the street. With a minimum ground clearance of 165 mm, the machine's entire kerb weight is 160 kg.

While talking about the instrument cluster of the bike, it has some updates from the previous model as it now has faux carbon fibre bezels and the display is illuminated in blue rather than amber as it was in the previous generation. The console displays a 12000 rpm meter, two trip metres with average fuel economy information, instant fuel economy, an odometer, an analogue tachometer, and also a distance-to-empty feature. The fonts and info on the cockpit have undergone significant changes while the rest of the features remain the same, such as an air filter choke-up light, a low battery warning indicator, a side stand warning signal, and neutral-high beam controls.

The current-gen model is powered by a 220cc, 4-stroke, DTS-i, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine with a five-speed gearbox. The engine is calibrated to produce a maximum power of 20.4 HP @ 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 18.55 Nm @ 7000 rpm, making it one of the most powerful motorcycles in its class. The wet multi-plate clutch assembly distributes power to the back wheel, and the Digital Twin Spark Ignition (DTS-i) technology enables the motorcycle to deliver smooth acceleration and a decent mileage figure. However, no mechanical changes have been made to the BS6 emission-compliant engine.

The Pulsar 220F is equipped with 90/90-17 front and 120/80-17 rear wide tubeless tyres set on reinforced 5-spoke alloy wheels. The braking duties are taken care of by a 280mm front disc brake and a 230mm rear disc brake, which are further paired with a single-channel ABS unit. While looking forward to the suspension system, the front telescopic forks and five-way adjustable Nitrox shock absorbers at the rear of the motorcycle offer a pleasant ride on any terrain.

With its strong top end, the 220F is well suited for extended highway rides. The bike can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in just 3.80 seconds and is capable of achieving a top speed of 144 kmph. Also, when speeding down the highway, the quarter fairing helps to deflect the wind and gives a smoother driving experience. The 15-litre fuel tank provides enough range on long journeys as well as the DTS-i technology uses dual spark plugs to help complete combustion and increase fuel economy, so the bike provides a decent mileage of approximately 35–40 kmpl in the city and 45–50 kmpl on the highway.
