Ford Motor Company was founded by Henry Ford. It was incorporated in the year 1903. Ford was born from suburbs of Detroit. It is the second largest car maker in US and 5th largest in the world. The subdivisions of Ford are Lincoln Brands, Mercury brands – which was discontinued from 2011 onwards. It also has small stakes in Mazda – the Japanese automobile maker and Aston Martin – the British Luxury car maker. It sold of the prestigious Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo brands in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
Ford’s method of Large Scale Manufacturing and Large Scale Management of Industrial Workforce set the world standards in automobile industries. Ford came to India in 1907 and was shut down in 1954. Later in a joint venture with Mahindra, they made a comeback in 1995 and increased the stakes in 1998, thus forming Ford India. It has a manufacturing facility in Chennai and a proposed plant in Sanand, Gujarat. The current models available in market are Ford Endeavour, Ford Fiesta and Ford Figo. The new hatchback model Ford Figo is a popular model.
