Volkswagen Vento Petrol Trendline Review

One of the Best Sedans in India

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Volkswagen Vento, an entry level sedan was launched by Volkswagen after the success of Polo. It is not altogether new but just the extended version of the hatchback Polo and it competes with the biggies like Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki SX4, Maruti Swift Dzire, Ford Fiesta, Fiat Linea, Renault Scala, Nissan Sunny and Skoda Rapid. Its exterior gives the most exquisite look which is not something you find in our entry level sedans. It shares almost similar design as Polo except the new air dams in front bumper with circular and chrome surrounded fog lights.

In the rear, it has stylish and very sleek C-pillar and square tail-lights along with chrome strip on the trunk. Also it has straight lines on bumper and a classy rear antenna which gives it a sporty look. It also included some new updates as Volkswagen India launched them recently such as stylish alloy wheels, navigation system and automatic climate control system, newer head-lamps and rear camera. It also has much similar interiors like Polo and in quality and comfort looks way ahead of its competitors with dual tone beige, great plastic quality; instrument panel with white back lights and digital display of speed and fuel efficiency and leather covered three spoke steering wheel, gear knob and hand brakes. As far as comfort is concerned, it has enough space for leg-room and shoulder-room, height-adjustable driver seat, all power windows, tilt and telescopic adjusted power steering, remote controlled central-locking, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors, rear AC vents, rear defogger, front seat adjustment from rear seats, rear parking sensors, steering mounted audio controls and electronic boot release which are all advanced features for an entry level sedan. It has a dual toned dashboard with enough space for a luxurious traveling.

Quick Facts: Volkswagen Vento

The central console has a quality audio system which can play CD, radio and MP3 and can support AUX, USB and Bluetooth with four powerful speakers along with a 12V accessory socket. Vento has two types of engines, one for petrol and one for diesel. The petrol engine is a four cylinder 1.6L DOHC which produces a maximum power of 105 bhp at 5250 rpm and a maximum torque of 153 Nm at 3800 rpm and is equipped with a five speed manual gearbox and six speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine is a common rail 1.6L which generates a maximum power of 105 bhp at 4400 rpm and a massive torque of 250 Nm at 1500 rpm and is equipped with a five speed manual gearbox. However, the petrol engine is somewhat lacking in terms of power compared to Honda City but still it touches 0-100kmph in under 11 seconds with a mileage of 16kmpl on highways and 12-13kmpl in cities.

The diesel engine is a complete outstanding one in its class with high speed shooting above 150kmph without any vibrations or unwanted noises and provides an excellent fuel efficiency with mileage of 16-18kmpl on highways and 14-16kmpl in cities. In terms of safety, Vento comes with disk brakes at front and drum brakes at rear with some advanced features in top model like Anti-theft system, backing-up alarm, dual-front Airbags and ABS. It provides a great handling in crowded cities and in bumps on Indian roads with minimum turning radius of 5.4m and wheelbase of 2552mm. Volkswagen Vento is available in nine variants which are Trendline, Comfortline, Comfortline Style Limited Edition, Highline, Highline AT, Diesel Trendline, Diesel Comfortline, Diesel Comfortline Style Limited Edition and Diesel Highline. Volkswagen Vento comes with 2 years/unlimited kms warranty. Vento is found in seven elegant shades, Candy white and Flash red in Trendline variant and Reflex Silver, Terra Beige, Shadow Blue, Pepper Grey and Deep black in Highline variant. Overall, Vento Petrol is not much a threat to Honda but the diesel version seems to be a strong competitor with its power, style and efficiency.
