Overview

Tata brought the updated Tiago in January 2020 to the Indian market. And the tiny hatchback has only recently received a model year upgrade. The Tiago has received many visual alterations, with the most significant improvement as a factory-fitted CNG kit. The Tata Tiago's BS6 update built on its strengths while improving on its weaknesses. So it's still a cheerful little city-runabout, and with the Altroz-inspired face, it's even more appealing. Even the cabin has gotten a much-needed makeover, with elements drawn from larger, more expensive Tata cars.

Tata Tiago Design and Style

When Tata released the facelifted Tiago in 2020, it received a slew of visual changes, including an Altroz-like sharper front profile and Tata's tri-arrow detailing both inside and out. Tata opted to add some extra chrome to it this time, which is done gently, to lend a little style to the hatchback. The 2022 Tiago also has projector headlights and LED DRLs, which are near the fog lamps. The tiny hatchback now comes in a new Midnight Plum colour, which fills the hole left by the absence of a Dark Edition Tiago.

The only new features in the profile are the chrome garnish on the door handles and new 14-inch stylized wheel covers that make the steel wheels appear to be dual-tone alloys. Tiago comes with an updated rear appearance with a chrome strip and the 'iCNG' badge on the boot lid. Overall, it remains the segment's best hatchback.

The same three-cylinder 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine powers the new Tiago, producing 86 horsepower @ 6000 rpm. It comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, but customers may also order it with an AMT automatic transmission. When you turn it on, the three-pot motor settles into a quiet idle, but there are noticeable vibrations on the inside. You can feel faint throbbing pulses all over the place, whether it's the gear lever, foot pedals, or even the steering wheel, which we don't think is a deal-breaker. because the vibration goes away the instant you press the clutch, engage the gear, and speed up to continue the ride.

2023 Tata Tiago’s compact size is a benefit, as it allows it to fly through traffic. Tiago's suspension absorbs most of the potholes seen on Indian roads. The suspension system, which includes McPherson struts with coil springs in the front and a semi-independent suspension system with dual path struts in the rear, provides exceptional comfort for the occupants. For braking, the Tata Tiago has disc brakes and drum brakes in the front and rear respectively, which come standard on all models. ABS with EBD, corner stability control, dual airbags, and reverse parking sensors are standard across all models. 14-inch steel wheels wrapped with the 175/65 R14 come as standard in the Tiago and the higher trims get the 15-inch alloy wheels with 175/60 R15 tyre section.

Tata has tried to freshen things up with the recent upgrade, as the top-spec XZ+ trim now sports a dual-tone black and beige cabin layout. New seat upholstery sums up the improvements on the inside up and the interior build quality and fit-finish are also remarkable. Adequately padded and contoured seats keep you comfortable on extended travels. While the rear seats house two individuals, sitting three would not be an issue for short city trips. However, the rear headrests are not adjustable, making proper neck support difficult.

2023 Tata Tiago has an excellent feature package, including a 7-inch touchscreen display that works well with Android and Auto/Apple CarPlay compatibility, and an 8-speaker (4 speakers, 4 tweeters) arrangement that sounds great. If you want to use voice instructions, Tata has included support for that in the Tiago. The touch screen panel also serves as the reverse camera display and features dynamic guidelines. You also get radio and phone controls on the steering wheel, automatic climate control, a digital driver's display, and electrically adjustable ORVMs.

It has dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and corner stability control. Another significant benefit for Tiago is that it is the only tiny hatchback with a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests.

Top Speed and Mileage of Tata Tiago

The ARAI certified and the company claimed mileage of the new Tata Tiago Petrol is 20 km/l, but real-world numbers are around 17 km/l, and the iCNG claimed mileage is around 26 km/kg, but real-world values are around 20 km/kg. Tata Tiago has a top speed of 150 km/h and can speed up from 0 to 100 km/h in 13 to 16 seconds, depending on the model.

Conclusion

With the update, the new Tiago has matured into a brilliant automobile, much more appealing to the eye than its rivals, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and the Hyundai Santro. It also drives nicely, thanks to the refinement given to its otherwise pleasant powertrain. Inside, updates have made it an even nicer place to be. Sure, the inside room isn't Tiago's strongest suit, but what sets the Tiago apart is its four-star Global NCAP rating, which is reason enough to choose it over anything else.
