In 2011, Tata launched its premium Mini Van known as Venture. This car type van aims to create a new segment for itself in our Indian market. Will it be able to do so? Let’s check out.

The new age styling of Venture certainly manages to impress you at first sight. Its full size front windshield and edgy clear lens headlights forms the face of Venture. The flat body panel just below its windshield comes with a long chrome lip which goes well with its black colored front grille which features a big Tata logo at its centre. Tata has nicely crafted air-inlets in its front bumper which comes with edgy lines and round shaped fog lights. This body colored front bumper makes this car look premium when seen from the front. The body colored door handles and ORVMs further enhances the visual charm of Venture. The large side windows and body panels add visual bulk to this minivan. Venture features bulgy wheel arches which looks sporty with its wheel covers. Venture looks slim and tall when seen from the back thanks to its vertically placed clear lens tail lights. The square shaped rear glass looks attractive with rear wiper and tall boot gate. The slim, body colored rear bumper of Venture comes with set of reflective lights.

Step inside Venture and it feels like any other hatchback in terms of interior quality. The dual tone beige and linen interior adds premium touch to this minivan. The fabric insertion also makes it superior than other vans. The leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob of Venture gives you the true essence of luxury inside. The average size seats give you optimum comfort and you will be surprised by the space inside. All three rows of Venture get enough amounts of head and leg room. Venture is available with three seating options which can carry 5, 7 and 8 people respectively.

Comfort and Convenience

Tata has stuffed Venture with all modern features to give you optimum comfort. This minivan comes with Dual HVAC with individual AC vents, power steering, front power windows, vanity mirror, mobile charger at front, roof lamps, single pull double flip seat, digital clock and adjustable front seats and headrests.

Dashboard and Storage

Venture uses a beige colored dashboard which looks quite futuristic but lacks good quality of plastic. This dashboard comes with an integrated central console which features AC vents and other plastic buttons. The dashboard also houses its analogue instrument console which surprisingly features a tachometer. This dashboard comes integrated with two roomy glove boxes at front which can be used to store documents/CDs. The rear utility tray also offers good storage space and can be used to carry bottles and snacks. The boot of Venture can easily carry full luggage of a family and it can be increased by folding down its third row.

Music System

The top variant of Venture comes with an integrated music system and 4 powerful speakers. It’s a Radio/ CD/ MP3 player which lacks USB and AUX-in connectivity.

Engine and Gearbox

Tata Venture is powered by the same turbo charged diesel engine which was earlier used in Indica. It’s a 4-cylinder, 1405cc engine which generates a maximum power output of 70 bhp at 4500 rpm. The utmost torque production of this liquid-cooled, SOHC engine is of 135 Nm which arrives at 2500 rpm. Venture is equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Acceleration and Performance

The delay in the torque arrival is the only major flaw in Venture. It takes time to pick up but once it goes pass the 2000rpm mark, it runs quite smoothly. The engine feels best around 3000rpm and shows no signs of turbo lag. The short gear ratios make it easy for you to drive it in city traffic with full load. The NVH levels are well in control and the engine makes noise only when rev hard. Venture gives you the power to overtake most of the cars easily on highways. The tall fifth gear allows you to cruise at high speeds and it can easily cross the speed of 130km/hr confidently.

Mileage and Safety Features

Tata Venture returns you an impressive mileage of around 14-15km/ltr. The top variant of Venture comes loaded with safety features like keyless entry, engine immobilizer, reverse guide system, front crash reinforcement, side impact beams, collapsible steering and rear door child lock.

Suspension and Brakes

Tata Venture features independent strut type, coil spring suspension at its front and Multi link suspension with coil spring at the back. It comes equipped with disc brakes at its front and hydraulic drum brakes at the back.

Ride and Handling

Despite having a tall stance, Venture easily gets momentum thanks to its low ground clearance of 160mm. The suspension system also manages to give you comfortable rides but the tall stance, short wheelbase of 2100mm and heavy weight of this minivan results into major body roll around corners. The tyres try their level best to provide firm road grip to Venture but they fails around sharp corners. Its light handling is the best thing in this department. With a minimum turning radius of 4.5m, you can frequently use this van as a car in city traffic. The tall positioned driver seat gives you nice view of roads while big glasses on both sides makes it easy for you to park it anywhere and it also steers accurately at high speeds. The braking system also gives you no chance to complain.

Shades, Variants and Warranty

Three variants of Venture are available in seven different shades. Tata offers a warranty of 2 years/75000 kilometres on Venture.

Tata Venture certainly offers you the performance and features similar to any other hatchback. Moreover, it comes with different seating arrangements, handles brilliantly in city traffic and manages to return a good fuel economy. We feel it’s a complete value for money car type minivan which feels far better than its competitors and sounds like a good deal.
