Nissan Sunny was first launched by Nissan India in September 2011 in Indian market while it got its worldwide entrance earlier in December 2010 at 8th China International Automobile Exhibition in Guangzhou. It entered in Indian market as a C+ segment sedan with top-class features and sufficient room for all passengers. The word 'Sunny' means 'good beginning in the morning'.
Nissan Sunny has the most elegant yet sturdy exterior with its huge front end that carries large headlights, bold lines all over the body, big jewel shaped front halogen headlamps, classy front grille with Nissan's logo at center and slats plated with chrome, 14-and 15-inch alloy wheels, low air dam with single slat, circular fog lamp cluster, body colored bumpers, front and rear view mirrors, chrome plating on waistline moulding, spacious and wide opening doors, rigid haunches, neat rear spoiler, triangular tail lamps neighbouring rear turn indicators and reverse light, rear windshield with third brake light, rear spoiler and Nissan's logo just above the registration plate at rear.
The interior gives a classy and yet dull look with grey upholstery, colors on door trims, circular instrument console, high quality plastic, rear AC vents, a panel box, seat belts, highly spacious trunk, a shift knob, headrests, power windows, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, KESSY and push button START or STOP system. For the utmost comfort of its passengers, it incorporates ample shoulder room, hip room, legroom, head room and rear knee room, 490-litres of boot space, rear AC vents, large wheelbase of 2600mm, KESSY, circular illuminated digital display central console and smooth vision meters. The dual-toned dashboard is a highly spacious one with rectangular manual or automatic AC vents, the audio system and the instrument cluster, instrument panel with four dials-two large central dials and two smaller ones and three spoke steering wheel with audio controls.
The audio system is a 2-DIN music system with CD and MP3 player, AUX-in port and four powerful speakers for full entertainment in however long journey. Nissan Sunny has two engine options-petrol and diesel. The 1461cc 1.5L four cylinder K9K diesel engine has a maximum power of 84.8 bhp at 3750 rpm and a maximum torque of 200 Nm at 2000 rpm. The 1498cc 1.5L four cylinder power-train petrol engine has a maximum power of 97 bhp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 134 Nm at 4000 rpm. Both the engines have five speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine gives a mileage of 15 kmpl in the cities and 17 kmpl on the highways while the diesel engine gives an ARAI certified 21.64 kmpl mileage for both the cities as well as highways. The top speed of petrol engine powered variant is 175 kmph and it reaches 0-100 kmph mark in less than 15.8 seconds. It has 4425mm of length, 1695mm of width and 1505mm of height as its dimension and its kerb weight varies around 998-1027kgs for petrol variants and 1092-1097kgs for diesel variants.
As far as safety of the passengers is concerned, it includes front dual SRS airbags, halogen headlamps, front and rear fog lamps, seat belts, impact withstanding and absorbing body, engine immobilizer, front and side impact beams, child safety locks, KESSY, day and night inside rear view mirror, central locking and front ventilated disk brakes. It has disk brakes (ventilated disks for petrol variants and normal disks for diesel variants) at front and drum brakes at rear. It has advanced braking features which includes ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) and BA (Brake Assist). The suspension system is a McPherson strut in front and torsion beam with stabilizer bar at rear. It has a ground clearance of 165mm to easily drive on bumpy Indian roads.
Nissan Sunny is available in five variants. The three petrol variants are XE, XL and. The two diesel variants are XL and XV. It has six beautiful shades which include Brick Red, Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black, Storm White, Bronze Grey and Blade Silver. Overall, this sedan is a perfect combination of high space, advanced safety features, high performance, speed, lots of comfort and its good interior and exterior design. The cost of this sedan varies between INR 6-10 lakhs thus making it a good value for money car. The only obstacle for Nissan Sunny or the general obstacle is that Nissan has very less number of service outlets in India thus it could be a negative-point for Sunny.
