Mahindra XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2
Mahindra Variant
General information and overview
The Mahindra XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2 is a robust and feature-packed SUV designed to cater to a wide range of needs. It boasts a 2.2-liter mHawk turbodiesel engine that produces 140 bhp and 330 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The interior is spacious, especially in the middle row, and comes with premium features like full leather upholstery, a touch-screen multimedia interface, and dual-zone climate control. The vehicle also includes safety features such as disc brakes all around, ABS, and EBD. While it has some minor drawbacks like notchy gearbox and torque steer, the overall package is hard to ignore, especially given its value-for-money proposition. The XUV500s comfortable ride, ample storage options, and strong performance make it a viable choice for those looking for a versatile and affordable SUV.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Mahindra XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2 is a compelling package that offers exceptional value for money. Its muscular design and strong road presence make it a head-turner, and the interior, though not perfect, is well-equipped with features like dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, and a comprehensive multimedia interface. The mHawk engine delivers impressive performance, both in city and highway driving, despite some minor issues with the gearbox and clutch. However, the vehicles fit and finish could be improved, and the torque steer under hard acceleration is a notable concern. Despite these flaws, the XUV500s comfort, spaciousness, and fuel efficiency make it a strong contender in its segment.
Recent news and announcements
Mahindra has officially discontinued the XUV500 in India, marking the end of an era for this popular SUV. The last known price for the XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2 was around Rs. 17.30 lakh. I think this move was expected given the rise of newer models like the XUV700.
The Mahindra XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2 was known for its powerful 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, producing 155 bhp and 360 Nm of torque. This made it a favorite among those who needed both city and highway performance. The engines mid-range power was particularly praised for its cruising ability.
One of the standout features of the XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2 was its spacious and premium interior, complete with leather seats, climate control, and an electric sunroof. The cabin felt airy and spacious, making it a comfortable ride for all passengers. I believe the interior design was one of its strongest selling points.
The XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2 came with a range of advanced features, including the Mahindra Blue Sense App, which allowed users to control various car functions and view vehicle stats on their smartphones. This added a layer of convenience and modernity to the vehicle.
Mahindra made significant improvements to the XUV500s performance with the introduction of an electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger (eVGT), reducing turbo lag and enhancing overall performance. This update made the vehicle more responsive and efficient.
Pricing details and changes
When the Mahindra XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2 was launched, it was priced at around Rs 11.95 lakh for the top-end 2WD variant. However, prices can vary based on the region and any additional features or taxes. In India, the ex-showroom price for this variant would typically be in the range of Rs 12-13 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. The on-road price, including registration, insurance, and other costs, could be around Rs 15-16 lakh. This pricing makes the XUV500 an attractive option for those seeking a feature-rich SUV without breaking the bank.
Fuel efficiency information
The Mahindra XUV500 Diesel W8 4x2 offers commendable fuel efficiency, which is a significant factor for many buyers in India. It returns around 10.2 kmpl in city driving and 14.3 kmpl on the highway, making it one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class. This efficiency, combined with its relatively low kerb weight and tall gearing, ensures that running costs are kept in check, making it a practical choice for daily use.

I had a confusion with SKODA YETI-ambition & mahindra XUV500-W8 4x2...please help me guyz ...which one is best ?........///
Yes, Exactly dat front suspension noise in xuv500 and its cheap
plz be careful, the worst service and its a manufactural defect its about 60 % in all xuv 500
Damn good in safety n comfort wen I compared with endeavour, captiva, duster , fortuner n crv ..........
So, I bought this XUV 500, W8 FWD in July 2012. Now, the car
has 1100 kms and already got problems with suspension, and there was noise
inside the cabin. First, I tried to book an appointment and that took 2 days. I
received several calls and SMSes telling me the name of my relationship
manager. So, I tried to call him on Saturday, and he told me someone will call
me back in few mins, this never happened, I called him few times and he always
told me that. So, that day, I didn’t manage to get appointment. I called him again
next Monday morning, and he passed me onto someone and I finally got the
appointment next day. I brought the vehicle next morning, the supervisor told
me I will get the car same day evening, I called in the evening, he told me, he
will deliver the car next day. Next day, I called him in the afternoon, he said
my vehicle is ready and I can pick it up, I went there, he asked for 5 mins. Of
time which is always 15 mins. After that, he brought the paper to cashier, and
cashier was not there, this again took 20 mins. The cashier spotted something
was missing, the supervisor tried to close the case but he did some mistake. He
was asking me for another 20 mins ( which would mean at least an hour) and I had
enough of it. I left. No one called me that day. I sent an email to customer
care and xuv sales department, next day, my relationship manager called and
told me he will fix the vehicle and send across the same day and also, that
while taking the vehicle out of car shower, they were putting a dent and he
will also fix that. I called the manager in the evening, he told me my vehicle
is ready and I can come and pick it up, I told him I will never visit workshop,
he should send it over unless he wants to keep it, he said he will get back to
me. He never picked up his phone after that. Today, I sent an email again to
the customer care and xuv sales, the supervisor called me in the morning and
told me he will deliver the vehicle before 5 pm, I asked him if I have to call
him again or follow to which he said no, I don’t have to. And on top of it, he
told the vehicle is still not fixed, he got the part and he will fix it today.
Now, there is no sign and it’s 4th day, my car is laying in their
workshop, taking car shower and resting, because I was driving it too much. Can
you imagine? Would you still like to buy a car that has already problem with in
the first month of purchasing and it takes more than 4 days to repair it and
even no one is answerable or care about how many days it takes. People – go ahead
and buy another company vehicle, my previous experiences with Tata, Ford,
Hyundai and Chevrolet, no matter how big the problem was, the vehicle was
delivered the same day and it was ready when they called me, I just needed to
pay and drive. So, you pay more than 15 lacs to test this vehicle, and you
spend your time bringing the car to workshop, and when they tell you it’s
ready, and you go there to pick up and find out it’s not ready. So, in all, it’s
a big loss to buy this car, first you spend so much money in buying, second you
spend your time testing this car, third, you spend time in repairing it,
fourth, most of the time, this car is going to be in garage. Imagine, within one
month, it’s 4 days in workshop and I am still counting and that too, after two
emails to customer care. My Advice, just don’t buy it, if you do buy, ask for
money to test it, that your time is more precious than this car that Mahindra
wants you to pay for testing.
damn gud car ds car has al d features + price bracket is gud enough.,,,,,,,,,,
Thats my next car by September 2012.I hope in 60 days from now the price does not go up again.
i would like to purchase xuv 500 4x4 but whenever i find different rates always
