Mahindra Logan is now 'Verito'

Mahindra Logan was the first car from Mahindra and Renault in India. But now Mahindra and Renault have parted their ways, Renault will start fresh innings with the launch of Fluence and Koles in 2012 and Mahindra is now selling Logan on its own. Mahindra & Mahindra has dropped the 'Logan' name and re-launched the sedan as 'Verito'. This is the third vehicle by Mahindra whose name end with a 'O' after Scorpio and Bolero. When Mahindra and Renault parted ways then it was in the contract that Mahindra can't use the Renault logo and 'Logan' name. Mahindra Verito not features Renault logo and will be sold as 'Verito'. Apart from name and logo there is no major change in terms of design and styling. Mahindra has only added few new features such as - Mahindra Logo, New bold fog lamps, Side cladding, Roof rails, Rear Chrome appliqué and New Upholstery. Verito has same price tag as the Logan and it is powered by same petrol and diesel engines that powered the Logan.
Update: Mahindra Verito Executive Special Edition Launched
Mahindra & Mahindra has launched a special edition variant of Verito which will be sold as Verito Executive Special Edition. It is based on the top-end model of diesel Verito and comes with host of new features like beige leather seats, alloy wheels, executive edition badges, single DIN music system with bluetooth connectivity plus USB port and special graphics and decals.

Looks and Interiors of Mahindra Verito
Mahindra Logan had very boring and bland looks and because of this reason it never managed to sell in good numbers. Mahindra has tried to change this with the launch of Verito but it seems like they have not been able to make Verito a smart looking car. The company has made some cosmetic changes in the car but Verito still looks bland and boring. Though Fit and finish of Mahindra Verito is very good and it is the widest car in its segment. It's wider than a Toyota Corolla and headroom is massive as well. All three rear passengers also get headrests, to prove the point that three are comfortable at the back but it's good from a standpoint of safety as well. The front seats of Mahindra Verito are wide and seat travel is good, but the seats are a touch flat. The Verito is contemporary when it comes to crashworthiness. And the company has offered driver-side airbags as standard fitment for the top-end models. Mahindra Verito has single-piece and square-shaped dashboard is functional at best. The glove box isn't as big as it looks but there's a very useful cubbyhole above it in place of the front passenger airbag. The switchgear and circular air-con vents of Verito feel quite solid and operate well but the quality of plastics is not up to the mark.
Engine Options of Mahindra Verito
- Petrol engine is 1390cc - 75 Bhp power and 110 Nm torque
- Diesel engine is 1461cc - 65 Bhp power and 160 Nm torque
Mahindra Vertio is powered by same Ranault engines - the common-rail diesel engine which displaces 1461cc to develop 65 bhp at 4000 rpm and 160 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. The petrol engine which displaces 1390cc to develop 75 bhp at 5500 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm. BSIV variants of Mahindra Verito are also available. The power train of Verito feels indestructible too in a way traditional engines did. The gear ratios are suited for commuting and getting in and out of the car is easy and seats are good for three-hour stints. The body structure of Verito is extremely stiff for good ride and handling and the use of a current platform also means crash survivability is of the highest order. The five-speed gearbox fitted contributes to driving pleasure a fair bit.

The base model of Verito is G2/D2 which comes with air-conditioner, power steering, boot opener, remote operated fuel tank lid, sun visors, body coloured bumpers, rear fog lamps, roof rails, anti-theft electronic safety system, tachometer, LCD screen on the instrument cluster. The next model is G4/D4 which in addition to the the features of G2/D2 comes with power windows, internally adjustable outside rear view mirrors, central locking, body coloured rear view mirrors and body coloured door handles. The top of the line variant is D6 which in addition to the features of D4 comes with single disc music system with four speakers, rear defogger, remote central locking, front fog lamps, chrome finished front grille, ABS (Anti-lock braking system), driver side airbag and EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution). The company has not provided any details about the features of D4 PLAY and G4 PLAY but it is expected that it comes with additional features like Alloys, USB enabled music system, leather seat covers, body graphics and reverse parking sensors.
