Watch out Rio and Ertiga - Quanto is here
Saturday, May 18, 2013Mahindra Quanto is a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) from Indian manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. Quanto is a sub 4-metre MPV that represents the B+ Segment in the Indian car market. Quanto is based on the same platform as that of Mahindra Xylo, but with a shorter rear layout. The basic design of this MPV is pretty similar to that of Mahindra Xylo. When you take a look at Quanto for the first time, you can easily notice the resemblance with its elder sibling Xylo. But that doesn't mean it has nothing new on offer, if you dig deeper you can find many changes. Its ‘V’ bonnet has been retouched, trendy fog lamps & sporty roof rails have been added to the front and also a new lip above the grille give Quanto its own identity.
It has now 15” wheels down from 16” in Xylo and at the rear end it features quarter glass windows and a spare wheel mounted on the tail gate. When you enter the Quanto, here also you won't find too much dissimilarity as it has same dual tone colors, familiar door trims, door handles and plastic as that of Xylo. The car can accommodate seven people pretty comfortably as it has 5 full size seats with two jumps seats at the back. The Quanto measures 3998mm in length, 1850mm in width, 1895mm in height and has ground clearance of 180mm. That makes Quanto extremely spacious and comfortable with appropriate knee room, head room and shoulder room. The seats are very soft and relaxing as they feature high quality fabrics and well-spread AC vents provides excellent environment.
Under the hood, the Mahindra Quanto features a reduced version of 2.2L mHawk engine to fulfill the excise conditions. That mean the five-door mini SUV houses a 1.5 L mCR100, common rail diesel engine of 1493cc displacement. It churns out maximum power output of 100 bhp at 3750 rpm along with peak torque of 240 Nm ranging from 1600 - 2800 rpm. The engine comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox that offers smoothness of gear transitions. It has minimal turbo lag and picks up really well as soon as it hits 1500 rpm but still doesn't makes too much of noise or vibrations.
Quanto can easily cross the 150 kmph speed mark but because of its heavy size of around 1640 kg, it takes more than 17 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100kmph. Mahindra Quanto returns pretty impressive figures of fuel efficiency with 14-15 kmpl in city conditions and 16-17 kmpl on the long run. Mahindra has launched the Quanto in the Indian market in a total of four variants namely 'C2' base variant, 'C4' middle variant, 'C6' with ABS only and the top end 'C8'. The top of the pack ‘C8’ variant is equipped with host of features that offers comfort, styling as well as safety. It comes with features like ABS, EBD, reverse parking sensors, dual SRS airbags, power windows, power steering, tinted class, rear defogger, rear washer & wiper, electrically adjustable rear-view mirrors, remote central locking, 2DIN music system, digital drive assist system, alloy wheels and body coloured bumpers, grille and door handles.
